The Darkness Around is John Debowie's first venture into long-form dungeon ambient: two
thirty-minute tracks — The Darkness and Around — designed to underscore an entire RPG
session without interruption. Released in October 2021, the album trades the per-quest structure of The First Hero for a continuous, slowly-shifting drone form built
for game tables that need atmosphere more than punctuation.
From the artist: «Dark and gloomy ambient sounds envelop the listener, fully immersing him in a dungeon
atmosphere of other times. Concentrating on a game of dungeon, you will have the impression of going
through catacombs and unfriendly places.» The album works for any dark fantasy RPG — D&D,
HeroQuest, Gloomhaven, Warhammer Quest, Descent. Wherever there is darkness, there is The Darkness
Around.
